ROCKSTAR CUSTOM SOUNTRACKS v1.0 (mirrored by gtaportable.com)
This can also be found in the download section on the official site at www.libertycitystories.com
Rockstars official software for adding you own custom soundtracks to GTA: LCS.
Download the application (zip 911kb) from the above link, and view the included readme file (PDF document) for installation instructions.
Note: This software only allows you to put tracks you own on CD into the game.
Brief instructions (By Altered_Beast):
To use custom tracks you have to download the program from the official LCS site and install it.
Then you will need the actual CDs of any tracks you want to put into LCS.
You will have to have your PSP connected to your PC via a USB cable and turned on in USB mode.
You must also have a LCS save game on your memory card to be able to load the custom tracks as well.
You don't have to add a whole album, just highlight one (or more) song(s) then press the button to upload it to your PSP.
Once you have uploaded all the songs you want, disconnect you PSP from your PC, insert your copy of LCS and start your game.
Now when you're playing, go into the pause menu and select the audio option and turn the custom tracks on.
Your custom tracks will now play instead of the radio stations.
The only thing with this is, if you don't want any music playing while you're in a vehicle you will have to go back to the audio option and turn the custom tracks off, then turn the radio off in the vehicle.
Below is a guide on how to get your music into the game without using the CD.
| Quote: |
This guide is designed to help you get the "custom tracks" audio feature to
work in the GTA LCS game for PSP. According to Rockstar, all you need is
their Custom Track Loader which you can get directly from the Rockstar
website. I downloaded their compression tool and followed the instructions
but it wouldn't recognize my music CDs. I have tons of mp3s (PAID FOR) on my
pc. Why should I have to go dig through my closet and garage to find all of
the original CDs that I've already taken the time to rip to MP3 format and
save on to my PC. If you are experiencing this problem - where the Rockstar
tool won't recognize your purchased CD then I found a way around this...
First, here is a list of things you will need:
-Rockstar Custom Track Loader
-PC computer
-USB cable or memory stick reader (to transfer data between the PC and the PSP)
-MP3 music saved on your PC
-Cdex 1.51 audio ripping tool (This is FREE, just go to your favorite search
engine, find it and download)
1. Install the Rockstar Track Loader/Compression tool.
2. Install the Cdex audio ripping tool.
3. Determine which MP3 tracks that you want to listen to in the game.
4. Rip them from MP3 to standard WAV format using the Cdex tool.
5. Launch the Rockstar tool.
6. Take all of the WAV files that you just ripped and "drag & drop" them to
the Rockstar tool.
7. You will get a pop up message when you drop the WAV files into the
Rockstar tool window that states, "Select Destination Directory".
8. Pick a place on your pc where you would like to save the songs. Do
nothing to the "Filename" field or the "Save as type" field. These fields
will state, "Filename will be ignored" and "Wav". This is fine, leave these
alone and pick a place on your pc to save and click "Save". The Wav
compression will commence. You will notice that the compressed files are about
half the size of an MP3, pretty cool.
9. Go to the location you chose to save your tracks. Notice that your newly
compressed files are named with the ".wav" format on the end. You will need
to manually rename each file from ".wav" to ".gta". Example, if your song is
titled "I like big butts - sir mix a lot.wav" then you will need to rename it
to "I like big butts - sir mix a lot.gta". Basically, just change the ".wav"
to ".gta", simple.
10. Assuming you now have a bunch of your favorite tunes somewhere on your pc
in "GTA" format, you are now ready to link your psp up to the pc. Whatever
method you prefer is fine, most people use USB cable. I prefer to use my
Memory Stick Duo Slot Reader on my PC, much faster.
11. Get into the files on your PSP memory stick. You'll need to create a
folder in your "SAVEDATA" directory. I have a U.S. version of the game so the
folder I create needs to be called, "ULUS10041CUSTOMTRACKS". You can search
online to get the other folder names for the other regions but it's not hard
to figure out on your own.
12. Now you can transfer your "GTA" tunes from your PC to the custom track
directory you just created in your SAVEDATA folder.
You're done...turn on your PSP, get your game going and when you click "Start"
and go to "Audio", you will notice that next to Custom Tracks, it now
says "OFF" instead of "Unavailable". Switch it to "ON".

I'm guessing it would be yes, seeing as R* haven't put any other version on the site.
When you record from a CD, you're not recording in onto your PC/Mac, you're recording the tracks straight onto your PSP. _________________

No, that's the thing about it, you must have the CD of the song you want to put into the game.
And you also cannot use CD-Rs.
The official program R* has on the LCS site has been designed not to read CD-Rs or be compatable with mp3s. _________________

'fraid not.
It only takes about a minute to record a song from a CD to the PSP, depending on the size/length.
The only pain in the arse for me with it is that my CDs are spread across to rooms.
Every CD I've bought since moving into the room I'm in now is in here, but most of my other CDs are still in my old room as I haven't got around to buying a better and bigger CD cabinet since changing rooms.
I think I've got somewhere around 200 CDs if not more. _________________

Can't you just put your Limewire songs on a CD, then copy the CD onto the PSP? _________________ ----------

Again that's a no go area.
It says in the readme file that it wont recognise CD-Rs. _________________

So unless you have your own CD manufacturing business, you're stuck. _________________
